This free tool shrinks a image to 40 KB or less right in your browser. It tries different JPEG quality levels and keeps the highest one that still fits under the limit. If quality alone cannot get there, it scales the picture down a little at a time until the file fits.
Application forms, job portals, scholarship sites and government services often set a maximum upload size. Check the instructions on your form for the exact size, format and dimensions it asks for.
As a rough rule of thumb, a 40 KB JPEG of an ordinary portrait photo holds about 450×600 pixels before quality has to drop noticeably. Photos with a plain background can carry more pixels, while busy or grainy ones carry fewer. This is only a guide, so the tool checks the real file size every time.
Choose your image above. The target already says 40 KB, so just press Compress. The tool picks the highest JPEG quality that stays under 40 KB and only shrinks the picture itself if quality alone is not enough. Then download the new JPG.
On screen it usually still looks fine. You may notice slight softness only when you zoom in on a 40 KB file.
Yes. Type a width and a height in the optional boxes and the picture is cropped to fill that size without stretching. If you fill in only one box, the other side follows the original proportions.
The tool aims for the highest quality that fits under the limit, so the result can land a little below 40 KB. If your original was already under 40 KB, it is simply re-saved as a JPG.
No. Compression runs in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
PNG, JPG, WEBP and GIF images open in every modern browser. iPhone HEIC photos depend on your browser, so convert them to JPG first if one will not open. The output is always a JPG.
